Buckminster's in Point Breeze sets opening

It's a seasonal gastropub at 21st and Federal Streets.

Buckminster's, the neo-bistro coming to Point Breeze, has set an opening date of Sunday, Nov. 15.

And what - pray tell - is a neo-bistro and what does it serve?

Neo-bistros are a thing in Paris. In sum, it's a seasonal gastropub.

Buckminster's - replacing the shot-and-beer Burg's at 21st and Federal Streets - is a casual spot from Michael and Jeniphur Pasquarello, who own Cafe Lift, Prohibition Taphouse, Bufad, and Kensington Quarters.

As for the food, we turn to Rob Marzinsky, whose menu is just about done.

The draft appetizer list shows three different preparations of a half-dozen oysters served with brown bread and butter (on ice with lemon; baked with cultured butter and herbs; and stewed with cream, sherry, and potatoes); parsnip fries; baked cheddar cauliflower; braised carrots in red wine with beef and wheatberries; and stuffed cabbage with Carolina Gold rice, Kensington Quarters ground beef, and pepper-pot sauce.

Mains include pork and apples with sauerkraut, mustard, broth ($16); chicken Marsala made with Frecon Farms cider, mushrooms, and spelt noodles ($21).

Desserts include maple toast served with egg nog ice cream and pumpkin pie.

Atmosphere is a tribute to Buckminster Fuller, the architect, designer and inventor of the geodesic dome.

Opening is at 5 p.m. daily. (They're hosting an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.)
