Crow & Pitcher in Rittenhouse reboots as Baril
Baril is French for "barrel" - and that's a tip of the chapeau to Franco's grandfather's long-ago South Philadelphia bar, Johnny Barrel's, at 18th and Sigel Streets.
Michael Franco, planning to rebrand Crow and the Pitcher near Rittenhouse Square, is looking into his family's restaurant roots for the new name.
The Crow, 267 S. 19th St., shut down after business Wednesday, Nov. 23 and will return, after light redecorating, as Baril on Dec. 6. Concept remains French, and chef Gregory Headen is again working with Georges Perrier on a new menu inspired by Provence. Ingredients will include house-grown herbs and vegetables.
