Delco's 2SP Brewing Company opens its tasting room
Limited food, lots of brews in Aston.
The tasting room at 2SP Brewing Company at 120 Concord Rd. in Aston, Delaware County, is open.
Head brewer Bob Barrar, who won 29 medals between the Great American Beer Festival and the World Beer Cup during his days with Iron Hill in Media, is partnered with Michael Stiglitz and Ben Muse, owners of the Two Stones Pubs.
Stiglitz, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America (and former Iron Hill-er himself), and beer veteran Muse founded Two Stones in Newark, Del., in 2011, followed by spots in Wilmington and Kennett Square.
Barrar and compadre Andrew "Ruby" Rubenstein are working on a 20-barrel system.
They are set to start limited distribution the week of Aug. 10 in Philadelphia and Delco. The Aston tasting room is open Tuesday through Sunday (2 to 8 p.m. weekdays, noon to 8 p.m. weekends).
Among highlights are the Delco Lager, the Bellcracker Double IPA (8.7% abv), and the saison Patina.
As the brewery was set up, Barrar and Rubenstein did four collaborations with East Coast craft breweries Oxbow in Maine, Funky Buddha and Coppertail out of Florida, and Evolution in Maryland.
Starting next week, a choice of two panini of the day and a cheese and meat plate will be offered at the tasting room.
"And if people want to bring in their own food from outside restaurants, as long as they share with Bob and the staff, we're definitely ok with that," said marketing guy Michael Contreras.
