Farm & Fisherman in Cherry Hill opens

On Nov. 23, owners Joshua Lawler and Todd Fuller open The Farm and Fisherman Tavern & Market (1442 East Route 70, 856-356-2282), a much larger offshoot of Lawler's BYOB in Washington Square West that they intend as an antidote to the chains in the area.

The idea of an all-in-one bar, restaurant and grocery seems sound.

Each piece complements the other, and the customer gets multiple reasons to visit - whether for a breakfast on the run, to grab a light dinner, as a stop during a shopping trip, or as an after-dinner hangout.

Witness the success of Court Street Grocers in Brooklyn and Jeffrey's Grocery in the West Village. Talula's Daily is knocking it out on Washington Square, and Tela's Market & Kitchen now open at 19th Street and Fairmount Avenue.

Joshua Lawler and Todd Fuller have opened The Farm and Fisherman Tavern & Market (1442 East Route 70, Cherry Hill, 856-356-2282), a much larger offshoot of Lawler's BYOB in Washington Square West that they intend as an antidote to the chains in the area.

While Lawler can seat 30 people in a swish but tiny dining room in Center City, the Cherry Hill operation is far more ambitious - two independent but cooperative spaces in the former Andreotti's. The tavern seats a respectable 150.

It is open throughout the day, starting in the the morning with coffee, baked goods and hot breakfasts, extending to entrees and sides for lunch, including grab-and-go salads and sandwiches, and seguing into family-friendly meals whose ingredients is sourced locally.

Sample dishes include Local chicken baked in hay; Bloody Beet Salad; Crispy NJ Spuds with heritage bacon and local cheese fondue; and Barnegat Scallops with winter squash and pumpkin seed vinaigrette.

Many ingredients for these dishes - such as the bread used on the sandwiches and the beers at the bar - are available to go.

Initial hours will be dinner only.

While Fuller (ex-Treno and Tangerine) and Lawler run Cherry Hill, Andy Tessier will become chef de cuisine on Pine Street.
