Gay sports bar plans to open in Center City

Boxers NYC's founders visited Philadelphia to play gay softball. They want to open here.

Boxers NYC - the gay sports bars with Manhattan locations in Chelsea and Hell's Kitchen - is fixing to set up shop in Center City.

Owners Bob Fluet and Robert Hynds posted a liquor application placard on the former Ritz Camera store at 1330 Walnut St. - between Nuts to You and Millennium Art Gallery and just up the street from gayborhood fixture Woody's.

The entrepreneurs fell in love with Philly during stops to play in the city's gay softball leagues. Fluet told me that they plan to meet with community leaders later this month and would spell out their plans. They hope to open in late summer. The space was advertised with 2,040 square feet on the first floor and a 620-square-foot mezzanine.

Steve Jeffries and Kevin Healey of Precision Realty Group represented Boxers. Michael Barmash of Colliers International represented the landlord.
