Jane G's opening Chinese restaurant in University City
It will occupy the ground floor at 3939 Chestnut St.
Jackson Fu and his mother, Jane Guo, of Center City's snazzy, upscale Jane G's, are headed to University City for their second Chinese restaurant.
They are about to start work on a still-unnamed restaurant at 3939 Chestnut St., the second Hub building. It will occupy the site that was Thai Singh House before it moved down the street a year ago to make way for the new building.
It's early in the process, but Fu said the menu will include dim sum, as well as Shanghai and Cantonese cuisine "with a little Sichuan."
Sichuan cooking, mind you, is right in Jane G's wheelhouse; see the two-bell Craig LaBan review here.
The restaurant also will have what he called "a decent-size bar - similar to what we have here" at 20th and Chestnut Streets. Draft beers will include Asian varieties.
Fu did not want to venture an opening date but hopes to be going before fall.
Jane G's opened in summer 2012. Guo owned the long-ago favorite Noodle Heaven at the base of the Bellevue on Broad Street, where Bliss is now.
