Melange @ Haddonfield is padlocked
The state has seized the Haddonfield restaurant.
This sign greeted customers last night at Joe Brown's Melange @ Haddonfield on Tanner Street.
It's a notice of property seizure for unpaid taxes.
Brown opened the Louisiana-theme restaurant in 2008. At one time, he also had a restaurant in Cherry Hill but he closed it shortly after the Haddonfleld location opened.
A New Jersey state spokesman said the business owed $71,875.08 in unpaid sales tax from 2008 and 2009. The business collected the money but failed to pass it along to Trenton, he said. The judgment was in place since 2009.
Update (5/30/13): In an email blast to customers, Brown acknowledged that the restaurant was closed. He blamed Tanner Street construction and the "challenging economy."
