Olive Garden in Center City closes

The Never Ending Pasta Bowl hits bottom after 12 years.

The chain restaurant gods giveth and the chain restaurant gods taketh away.

The Never Ending Pasta Bowl has hit bottom at the Olive Garden location on Chestnut Street just off Broad, between Capital Grille and Lucky Strike. It opened in early 2003 and closed effective Aug. 8.

A Darden representative said the chain continually evaluates the performance of its restaurant locations. He added, "In no way does this reflect on the quality of our employees' work, and we're doing everything we can to help every team member find a new job."

A sign out front steers patrons to locations in Bala Cynwyd and Northeast Philadelphia.

There's always Fratelli's Italian Bistro directly across the street, or heck - any one of the slew of independent Italian restaurants within a half-mile, e.g. Giorgio on Pine, Zavino, Zio's, or Cibo.
