Otto's Taproom & Grille on its way to Brewerytown

Center City restaurateurs are taking over a corner bar on 29th Street near Girard Avenue.

Brewerytown, whose stock has been on the rise lately, is getting a taproom and grill to replace a corner bar.

Otto's Taproom & Grille will take over in late February for the recently shuttered Sarah's Place on the corner 29th and Flora Streets, a block north of Girard Avenue. Sarah's Place, which opened in October 2014, succeeded a nuisance bar called Sara's Place.

Behind this one is Stephen Carlino, whose empire, known as the Tavern Group, is in Center City (Tavern on Camac, The Tavern Restaurant, UBar and the Inn On Camac). He is partnered in Otto's with managing director Randal Mrazik.

Otto's is named after Otto Wolf, the architect who designed many of the city's breweries in the early 20th century.

Ten draft beers from Europe and the Philadelphia region will be featured on a rotating basis. Among the full selection of spirits will be extra attention paid to whiskey. They're going with a simple grill menu.

Mrazik called Brewerytown "an underserved neighborhood.... There are not a lot of places for people that live there to grab great food and drink. I love the how the area of Girard Avenue feels like the center of a neighborhood. There are lots of 'in-the-biz' folks living in this neighborhood because it's still somewhat affordable to live, and accessible by public transit. I also have seen significant investment in this area by smart folks."

Ken McCoy of Coldwell Banker represented the Tavern Group and William Moscowitch of MSC Retail represented the landlord, MM Partners.
