Restaurant notes: Shakeup in Chestnut Hill

The Chestnut Hill Cuban is calling it quits. But Conshy's Blackfish is moving in.

Chip Roman of the Conshohocken BYOB Blackfish is preparing a growth spurt, hiring Lacroix alum Jason Cichonski.

Their first project will be a New American restaurant, with a liquor license, at 8609 Germantown Ave. in Chestnut Hill.

Roman does not have a name yet, but says the concept will be similar to Blackfish's. His timeline calls for a March opening. Cichonski will be chef there.

That site, near the top of Chestnut Hill just off Bethlehem Pike, is now a Latin spot called ¡Cuba!, which this morning announced that it would close, effective Jan. 10.

The restaurant opened in spring 2008 and filed for bankruptcy last July.

In an email, ¡Cuba! owner Miguel Castaneda said it would be open for dinner only Jan. 2 though Jan. 9, with the exception of Monday, Jan. 3. To those who bought discount coupons to ¡Cuba! through Groupon and PhillyHalfOff, you'd better hurry.
