After service Friday, Oct. 9, Supper restaurant - which gave its block a grown-up dining option when it opened across from the Whole Foods store on South Street in 2007 - will close. Its lease is winding down, and word on the street says the building is being sold.

Mitch and Jennifer Prensky say they will focus on growing their other businesses - the new Scratch Biscuits at 1306 Chestnut St., as well as Global Dish Caterers and the corporate catering arm of Global Dish Inc.

With a small-plate menu and a stylish vibe, the Prenskys had ventured out of the relatively sane and structured world of catering eight years ago at 926 South St. The menu later evolved into a more conventionally portioned one.

Supper was awarded three bells by the Inquirer's Craig LaBan and won four Best of Philly awards, and won attention from the New York Times, James Beard Foundation, and Food Network.

In a letter, the couple expressed pleasure of "meeting, serving and taking care of some of the greatest people ever - our customers. The friendshps that we have made through this experience, whether it be our coworkers, customers, clients, farmers, food writers, interested food lovers, charity organizers, what have you, will last a lifetime."

After Oct. 9, Supper will be open for private events only throughout the rest of the month and into the beginning of November.
