Federal Donuts and Dizengoff's Miami shops have closed
"The construction that has surrounded us for the last six months was simply too much to bear," they wrote in a statement shared on social media.
South Florida's hummus, fried chicken, and doughnut fans are waking up to the news that the Miami branches of the Philly-bred Federal Donuts and Dizengoff have shut down, at least temporarily.
Owners, including Michael Solomonov and Steve Cook, say construction around the shops in the Wynwood neighborhood killed the businesses, which opened last summer.
"The construction that has surrounded us for the last six months was simply too much to bear," they wrote in a statement shared on social media.
"It's been an honor, Miami. You welcomed us into your community with open arms and gave us the privilege to serve you. We hope to serve you again when the dust settles. Until we meet again, thank you and toda raba [thank you very much]."
A representative of the restaurants declined to elaborate on the permanence of the shutdown.
FedNuts Philly operation and Diz's Philly and New York operation are unaffected.
Miami is not a slam dunk for Philly restaurateurs. Stephen Starr closed his branch of Continental in Miami last summer, citing parking issues.
