Kontrol: A new underground bar in Center City
You go in through U-Bahn; you just hang a right at the bottom of the stairs.
Teddy Sourias has added to his empire on the 1300 block of Chestnut Street, where he owns Bru, U-Bahn, and the new Tradesman's.
Kontrol is a cool, low-lit Day Glo-painted underground bar adjacent to U-Bahn and Bru. You go in through U-Bahn; you just hang a right at the bottom of the stairs.
Kontrol's concept dovetails with the others: Where Bru has a German beer thing going, U-Bahn is American, and Tradesman's specializes in whiskies and American craft beer, Kontrol is more of a cocktail scene with a light menu, including barbecue pork from Tradesman's and house-made bratwurst from Bru.
It's open, for now, from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and for private events.
Sourias, whose other holdings include Cinder, Finn McCool's, and the seasonal Uptown Beer Garden, is planning more in that subterranean Chestnut Street space. Stay tuned.
