Rosy’s Taco Bar sets its opening in Center City
FCM is billing Rosy's — named after James "Rosy" Roosevelt, older half-brother to Franklin Delano Roosevelt — as a cross between a neighborhood pub and Mexican cantina.
FCM Hospitality, behind such spots as Morgan's Pier, and Concourse Dance Bar, has set a Sept. 5 opening for Rosy's Taco Bar, a Mexican-inspired pub at 2220 Walnut St., underneath the Roosevelt Apartments. It was Roosevelt's Bar back in the day.
FCM is billing Rosy's — named after James "Rosy" Roosevelt, older half-brother to Franklin Delano Roosevelt — as a cross between a neighborhood pub and Mexican cantina. The airy bar area with floor-to-ceiling windows will open up to the intersection of 23rd and Walnut Streets. The rear of the space features a dining room, private event space, and a second bar.
Rodrigo Bolanos, who helped open El Vez as a Jose Garces line cook, is chef, turning out made-from-scratch dishes such as familiar al pastor and pollo tinga, as well as such twists as a Korean barbeque taco, spice grilled chicken wings, Mexican-style sandwiches, and for dessert, a choco rolles, a Mexican spin on a Swiss roll. Lost Bread Co., an FCM partner, will provide masa for the tortillas.
There will be a hot sauce bar, too.
Beverages will include draft margaritas and sangrias — but shaken to order with fresh fruit. Ten rotating beers will include Mexican and domestic options. Plenty of tequila.
FCM Hospitality says it will donate a portion of sales throughout the entire year to National Immigrant Justice Center to show support for immigrant families.
Opening-week hours for Rosy's will be 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Beginning Sept. 14, hours will be 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday to Thursday, noon to 2 a.m. Friday (with brunch kicking off on Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.), and 11 a.m. 2 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
