Sabatino cooking for a Broad Street pop-up

It's coming to a lot across from the Kimmel Center.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the University of the Arts will open a pop-up garden on a UArts-owned lot at 313 S. Broad St.., in a vacant lot across from the Kimmel Center.

Groundswell Design Group is setting it up.

It is due to soft-open the week of May 20, with a grand opening on May 29.

There's a food component: Four Corners Management - whose holdings include Morgan's Pier - will handle the beer, sangria and food created by chef George Sabatino, late of Stateside and now of Morgan's Pier, which opens this week.

The scene will be "urban picnic" - vintage metal rocking chairs, a sculptural wall constructed from old shipping pallets, and market lights under locust trees.

The garden will be open through mid-October from 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 1 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
