Starr opening El Vez in N.Y.C.

Stephen Starr told the New York Times that he'll add a version of El Vez to New York's financial district in late 2013. He said it would be larger than the Philadelphia original, with about 200 seats, in the Goldman-Sachs building in Battery Park City.

Starr told me that the new El Vez will incorporate a few of the touches from 13th Street, including big booths, the low-rider bike, and a kitschy photo booth. It will have an open kitchen and a juice bar, he said.

When Starr brought Old City's Buddakan up to New York's Meatpacking District, it carried only a few similarities. Starr also owns a Morimoto branch (in the same building as Buddakan) and Caffe Storico in the New-York Historical Society.
